Align your actions by asking the question: Is this right in the eyes of the Lord?
Luke 12: 57 “Yes, and why, even of yourselves, do you not judge what is right? 58 When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, make every effort along the way to settle with him, lest he drag you to the judge, the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer throw you into prison. 59 I tell you, you shall not depart from there till you have paid the very last mite.”
Let look at this. One's ways are judged as either right or wrong.
Adversary: can be anyone, the enemy or a person you agree or disagree with.
To settle with him - to forgive the person, make right and repent of your ways.
Drag you to the judge - Father is a righteous judge
Deliver you to the officer - if you who took a person to the magistrate for justice and you did not do your due diligence to settle with him and found guilt, then you'll be delivered to the enemy and be in his prison.
Often it is the enemy who being a legalist, drags one to heaven's court. Yet our defender is the Lord.
The effects of unrepented sins and not walking in His ways by clinging to sins and wicked ways, allowing pride to hardened the heart, refusing to change, will let you perish.
That prison can look like guilt, shame, depression, fear, loneliness, illness, rejection, addiction, gluttony, unworthiness, bitterness, anger, hate and jealousy. If you are currently in such, then you most probable are in the prison of the enemy and there is hope, so much hope. You can be set free. Since birth, sin cloaks one in a mantle of shame and guilt, fear and believing the lies of the enemy who says that you need to earn the Lord's love, that the Lord will not forgive you, that your sin is too great and all these statements are lies. Untruths. Another lie is that the path is too narrow and impossible or that you will be burned in the Refiners fire. It's too hot and will burn you meanwhile the truth is the Lord will be with you in the fire and you will not be burned.
God is a merciful God and once you have repented and turn from your wicked ways even if your were imprisoned by the enemy, He will set you free if you call out to Him. God set the prisoners free and is close to the brokenhearted.
A man saw a fig tree not bearing fruit and said it should be cut down as it uses up ground. The Keeper said "let Me dig around it and fertilize it and if it bear fruit, well, but if it not bear fruit after a while, then you can cut it down".
The Lord is patient with us as He has created us, called us good yet sin corrupts.
Do you know why He hates sin? Because it keeps us apart from Him.
